Mississippi River Parkway Commission
About
The commission aids in the development of a scenic parkway and highway along the Mississippi River in Minnesota, and in the promotion of economic development opportunities along the Great River Road. It works with the state and local agencies of the National Mississippi River Parkway Commission in the promotion of tourism and the enhancement of economic development in the Mississippi River Valley.

The commission consists of 15 members.

- Member appointed by the commissioner of transportation
- Member appointed by the commissioner of natural resources
- Member appointed by the director of Explore Minnesota Tourism
- Member appointed by the commissioner of agriculture
- Member appointed by the director of the Minnesota Historical Society
- 2 senate members appointed by the Committee on Committees
- 2 house of representatives appointed by the speaker
- Secretary appointed by the commission
- 5 citizen members appointed by the commission after receiving recommendations from five citizen committees, with each committee established within 5 different geographic segments along the Mississippi River:
- Lake Itasca to but not including the city of Grand Rapids
- Grand Rapids to but not including the city of Brainerd
- Brainerd to but not including the city of Elk River
- Elk River to but not including the city of Hastings
- Hastings to the Iowa border
Commission's Statutory Authority:
To carry out such policy and to aid in the promotion and securement of a scenic parkway and highway for the state of Minnesota and to aid in securing the location of federal parks within Minnesota a Mississippi River Parkway Commission is created.
