Minnesota State Capitol Preservation Commission


The commission was created in statute to to develop a comprehensive, multi-year plan for the restoration, preservation and maintenance of the Minnesota State Capitol. By January 15 of each year, the commission shall report to the chairs and ranking minority members of the legislative committees with jurisdiction over the commission regarding the activities and efforts of the commission in the preceding calendar year, including recommendations adopted by the commission, a comprehensive financial plan, and any proposed draft legislation necessary to implement the recommendations.

The commission consists of 24 members.

  • The governor
  • The lieutenant governor
  • The attorney general
  • The chief justice of the supreme court or a designee
  • Senate majority leader or designee
  • Senate minority leader or designee
  • Speaker of the house or designee
  • Minoirty leader of the house or designee
  • Senate member appointed by the majority leader
  • Senate member appointed by the minoirty leader
  • House member appointed by the speaker
  • House member appointed by the minority leader
  • The chair and ranking minoirty member of the senate committee with jurisdiction over capital investment
  • The chair and ranking minoirty member of the house committee with jurisdiction over capital investment
  • Commissioner of administration or designee
  • Commissioner of public safety or designee
  • Executive director of the Minnesota Historical Society or designee
  • Executive secretary of the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board
  • Four public members appointed by the governor
