Population by Sex and Age Group:
Minnesota 1990 and 2000
Females accounted for just over one-half (50.5%) of the total Minnesota
population in 2000. In 1990, females were 51.0 percent of the
population.
- Just under one-half of those under age 18 in
Minnesota were female in 2000 and 1990 (48.7% and 48.8%,
respectively).
- The population 18 to 64 years was split nearly
equally between women (49.7%) and men (50.3%) in 2000. In 1990,
the population 18 to 64 was comprised of 50.2 percent women and 49.8
percent men.
- Women comprised 58.5 percent of the population age 65
and over in 2000, down slightly from 59.5 percent in 1990.
The population of Minnesota increased 12.4 percent from 1990 to
2000. The increase in population was smaller for females than for
their male counterparts.
- There were 2,483,848 females in Minnesota in 2000, up
253,932 (11.4%) from 1990.
- The number of women age 18 to 64 increased 13.1
percent from 1990 to 2000. In comparison, the number of men age
18 to 64 increased 15.3 percent.
- The number of women age 65 and over increased 6.8
percent from 1990 to 2000. The number of men age 65 and over
increased 11.4 percent in the same period.
