  1.3     "Sec. ..  PRIOR OUT-OF-STATE TEACHING SERVICE CREDIT 

  1.4  PURCHASE BY PUBLIC EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION MEMBER. 

  1.5     Subdivision 1.  ELIGIBILITY. An eligible member is a 

  1.6  current active member of the public employees retirement 

  1.7  association general plan who becomes a member of that plan on 

  1.8  August 1, 1973, and who was born on December 16, 1944.  An 

  1.9  eligible member may purchase allowable service credit in the 

  1.10 public employees retirement association general plan as 

  1.11 specified in this section. 

  1.12    Subd. 2.  SERVICE CREDIT PURCHASE AUTHORIZED. (a) An 

  1.13 eligible member specified in subdivision 1 is eligible to 

  1.14 purchase up to four years of allowable and formula service 

  1.15 credit for out-of-state teaching service by making payment under 

  1.16 section 356.55 or 356.551, whichever is applicable, provided 

  1.17 that the out-of-state teaching service was performed for an 

  1.18 educational institution established and operated by another 

  1.19 governmental jurisdiction and the eligible member is not 

  1.20 entitled to receive a current or deferred age and service 

  1.21 retirement annuity or disability benefit and has not purchased 

  1.22 service credit from another defined benefit public employee 

  1.23 pension plan for that out-of-state teaching service. 

  1.24    (b) For purposes of paragraph (a), "another governmental 

  2.1  jurisdiction" means another state of the United States or a 

  2.2  governmental subdivision of another state of the United States. 

  2.3     Subd. 3.  APPLICATION AND DOCUMENTATION. An eligible 

  2.4  member under subdivision 1 who desires to purchase service 

  2.5  credit under this section must apply with the executive director 

  2.6  of the public employees requirement association to make the 

  2.7  purchase.  The application must include all necessary 

  2.8  documentation of the eligible member's qualifications to make 

  2.9  the purchase, signed written permission to allow the executive 

  2.10 director to request and receive necessary verification of 

  2.11 applicable facts and eligibility requirements, and any other 

  2.12 relevant information that the executive director may require.  

  2.13 Payment must be made before the eligible member's effective date 

  2.14 of retirement or before January 1, 2003, whichever is earlier. 

  2.15    Subd. 4.  SERVICE CREDIT GRANT. Allowable and formula 

  2.16 service credit for the purchase period must be granted by the 

  2.17 public employees retirement association to the purchasing 

  2.18 eligible member on receipt of the purchase payment amount."
